Sarah Holcman is a dance artist, arts manager, and independent curator and producer in contemporary dance. She is originally from the USA, having spent many years in New York City performing and working with prestigious dance institutions and artists. Since 2014, Sarah has been based in Tel Aviv-Yafo. She is a co-founder and the artistic and executive director of the The Choreographic Institute



For almost 20 years, Sarah has worked with contemporary dance institutions, most notably: the Hollins University/American Dance Festival Masters of Fine Arts program, under the direction of Donna Faye Burchfield; Movement Research (NYC); and Gibney (NYC) where she served as the Center’s first Programs Manager, curating and managing a robust roster of programs including residencies, works-in-progress and feedback series, and artist resource programs.


In 2022, Sarah established The Choreographic Institute with Nitsan Margaliot and Tamar Sonn. In addition, she currently directs freelance dance projects and is the artistic advisor to Palestinian choreographer Sahar Damoni.


From 2015-2022, Sarah served as the Director of Programs and International Relations at the Suzanne Dellal Centre for Dance in Tel Aviv-Yafo where she oversaw the curation of international dance artists; directed International Exposure, the Centre’s annual platform for contemporary dance in Israel; and initiated a series of choreographic development programs including the Centre’s first residencies.


As a freelance arts/production/tour manager, artistic advisor and producer, Sarah has worked with Walter Dundervill, John Jasperse, John Jesurun, Nicholas Leichter, Jennifer Monson, and Juliette Mapp, among others. She was the Production Manager for Sarah Michelson’s, 4, at the Whitney Museum of American Art, NYC (named by the New York Times as the best dance performance of 2014).


As a dancer and creative collaborator, Sarah has performed with many choreographers in New York and internationally, most notably with Larissa Velez-Jackson (New York) and Deborah Hazler (Vienna).


Sarah was a 2011 Shapiro Family Fellow through the New York Jewish Federation and a 2013-14 Facilitation Fellow with Jewish Council for Public Affairs, NYC. She holds a BFA in Dance from Arizona State University. In her former life she appeared in the music videos of Animal Collective, Nadia Ali, Apollo Run, Kind Monitor, and Blitzen Trapper.
